Ethics Statement
Updated May 13, 2026
A short statement of the principles we work under.
Transparency
We publish under a clear identity. We disclose who we are, what we cover, how we make editorial decisions, and how we make money (programmatic advertising, no sponsored content). We disclose conflicts of interest. We disclose when we get something wrong.
Independence
We accept no payments, gifts, junkets, free trips, conference fees, or other favors from law firms, advocacy groups, political organizations, government agencies, or any party with an interest in our coverage. We accept standard programmatic display advertising. Advertisers have no influence over editorial decisions.
Accuracy
We verify before we publish. We rely on primary sources. We do not invent facts. When we are uncertain, we say so. When we are wrong, we issue a correction. We do not embellish, we do not stretch quotes, and we do not present analysis as reporting.
Respect for subjects
We give subjects of unfavorable coverage a meaningful opportunity to respond before publication, in the rare cases where we are publishing original investigations that name people. We do not publish material in ways designed to maximize engagement at the expense of fairness.
Respect for readers
We label news as news, opinion as opinion, and briefs as briefs. We do not write headlines that overstate what an article actually contains. We do not optimize for engagement at the expense of clarity. We do not use dark patterns to obscure unsubscribe options, ad disclosures, or pricing.
YMYL responsibility
This is a site about legal news, which Google classifies as YMYL ("Your Money or Your Life") content. We take that seriously. Nothing on this site is legal advice. Nothing on this site creates an attorney-client relationship. We do not publish how-to-sue-someone guides, do-it-yourself legal forms, or anything that could be mistaken for practical legal counsel. If you have a legal question, consult a licensed attorney in your jurisdiction.
AI disclosure
We use AI for some support tasks (copy-editing, public-records search, source identification). We do not use AI to generate the substance of articles. Every published piece is written and edited by humans.
